Learning To Play Golf Is Easy With These Tips
By: Curt Smith
When you're first learning to play
golf, you must first develop a keen understanding and application of the golf swing fundamentals. These fundamentals will be the backbone of your golfing future.
Learn Golf Fundamentals
When I say golf fundamentals, I'm referring to grip, stance and posture. These are "musts" for a consistent swing that will stand up to 18 holes. Get these wrong and you'll never improve your performance on the course.
Your grip is the ONLY contact you have with the club. If it is wrong, you'll bring the clubface into the ball at very inconsistent positions, when it should come in square.
Your posture dictates your swing plane and path. If your posture is ineffective, your path and plane will be incosistent creating mishits and poor shot distance.
Your stance is referring to width and ball placement. Get these wrong and you'll hit your shots fat, think, and topped. None are desirable outcomes for any golfer looking to improve their game.
Play Golf To Improve
You can become a "stratch golfer" on the range, but that doesn't mean anything until you take it to the course. The only way to achieve this is by playing. Even if you don't like your outcome, you're mentally preparing to perform under "playing conditions" which in the long-run will pay off.

Don't grip the club too tightly. A tight grip inhibits a smooth swing and follow-though. Also, keep the grips on your clubs in good condition. Worn grips force you to hold the club too tightly. Replace the grips on your clubs as they get worn and smooth. When first learning the grip, keep a club around the house and practice gripping and regripping the club a few minutes each day. Remember to keep fingers secure and arms relaxed.

The club is indirectly tied to the shoulders, therefore shoulder movement will determine the direction the club will travel.

Golf Swing
The trajectory of a golf ball and the distance it travels depends on its initial trajectory, speed and spin, as well as what it's moving through (air). The air is not always the same. It varies in temperature, pressure, humidity and density. If there were no air whatsoever, the golf ball would not travel far. Likewise, if a ball is hit in air with no spin, it will not travel far.

This time last year, Jimmy Cayne was one of the most respected men on Wall Street, grand fromage at the historic investment bank Bear Stearns and one of that old generation of genteel capitalists most comfortable forging their business relationships and their deals around the bridge table, in the clubhouse or over an 18-hole course. Golf destroyed him.
