Golf Putting Tips - Simple Golf Putting Tips to Lower Your Golf Score

By Tim Hathaway

Golf putting tips are a vital component when it comes to lowering your golf score. Gold has an almost endless supply of aspects to the game that you can improve upon. However, the quickest and easiest way to lower your golf score is by improving your putting. So what are some golf putting tips you can use to do just that?

Good putting is crucial to a good golf score. If you're hitting the ball poorly, good putting can make up for it and save you. If you're hitting the ball well, good putting will lower your score that much more. There's a reason the best putters and short game players dominate golf.

Putting and the rest of your golf game are completely different.

Putter Shaft Length - If you're serious about your golf game you may want to have the shaft of your putter custom made so that it naturally fits your correct putting stance.

This will improve your putting stance and the quality of your putting swing.

Grip - While there are only a few popular options on your golf swing grip, there are almost as many putting grips as there are golfers. Select a grip that is comfortable and allows for a smooth putting stroke. You want your thumbs to rest on a flat surface of the grip.

Improving Your Direction - Your putter head should be perpendicular to the line of the target (not necesarily the hole itself if there is a break to the putt).

This can take some practice so here is something you can try. Make a mark on your ball (you can use something like a Sharpie). Pick up your ball and set it back down. Place the golf ball so that the mark is pointing toward the target line.

Line your putter up behind the ball, perpendicular to the mark on the ball. This will make sure you are lined up toward your intended target. Now all you need to worry about is judging distance. Once you have these strategies in place, improving your distance will come with practice.

The left shoulder sets up the backswing by rotating down and under the chin. This shoulder movement directs the clubhead travel to the inside of the target line. The shoulder turn determines the length of the backswing.

To learn how variations of the grip affect ball flight. Experiment with slight variations of your grip. Observe how the changes affect the flight of the ball. A weak grip encourages a slice or fade. Push carts are becoming more popular in recent years. These carts roll on 3 wheels but you push these along the course instead of pulling them. Many people feel less strain on their back since you stand more upright and don't have to slightly twist around as you do with the pull carts. A breaking system of some kind keeps the cart from rolling away from you when you have to leave it on an incline. Check out how the cart folds and how much room it may take up in your trunk. Companies are developing them to fold up smaller and smaller with little effort and without having to remove any parts.
